Lama Alkadi, M.Sc.

Lama Alkadi, geboren 1995 und aufgewachsen in Damaskus, Syrien. Sie hat einen Master und Bachelor of Science in Architektur vom Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). Während ihres Studiums hat sie das International Students Office (ISTO) am KIT unterstützt. 2018 wurde ihr hierfür der DAAD-Preis für besonders engagierte internationale Studierende verliehen. Außerdem arbeitete sie als studentische Hilfskraft bei der Professur Landschaftsarchitektur am KIT (Prof. Henri Bava) und bei der Professur Architekturtheorie am KIT (V.-Prof. Dr. Nathalie Bredella).

Für ihre Masterarbeit „Zwischen Krieg & Handwerk“ wurde sie für den Förderpreis der Ruth und Erich-Rossmann-Stiftung und für den wa-award 2023 nominiert. Sie stellte sich darin der Frage, wie das lokale traditionelle Handwerk der Weg zu einem Wiederaufbau von Damaskus weisen könnte. Sie analysierte die kulturelle Rolle des Handwerks und die sozialen Bedürfnisse nach dem Krieg in der Region. Diese Untersuchungen führten zum Entwurf einer Bauschule.

Nebenbei beteiligte sie sich mit Kommilitonen an verschiedenen Wettbewerben und erhielt zusammen mit Andrea Santos und Fabrizio Canessa im Oktober 2022 den Badischen Architekturpreis in der Kategorie "Design Award".

Seit Februar 2023 unterstützt sie a*komm als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin.

Lama Alkadi, born in 1995 and raised in Damascus, Syria. She holds a Master and Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). During her studies, she supported the International Students Office (ISTO) at KIT. In 2018, she was awarded the DAAD Prize for outstanding achievements of international students for her work. She also worked as a student assistant at the Chair of Landscape Architecture at KIT (Prof. Henri Bava) and at the Chair of Architectural Theory at KIT (V.-Prof. Dr. Nathalie Bredella).

For her Master’s thesis "Zwischen Krieg & Handwerk" (Between War & Craft) she was nominated for the Sponsorship Award of the Ruth and Erich Rossmann Foundation and for the wa-award 2023. In it, she addressed the question of how local traditional handicrafts could lead the way to the reconstruction of Damascus. She analyzed the cultural role of crafts and the social needs after the war in the region. This research led to the design of a building school.

Along the way, she participated in various competitions with fellow students and, together with Andrea Santos and Fabrizio Canessa, received the Design Award of the Baden Architecture Prize in October 2022.

Since February 2023 she supports a*komm as a research assistant.
