Wintersemester 2021/22

Je größer die Bedeutung eines architektonischen Projekts, desto höher die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass leidenschaftlich darüber gestritten wird. Ob solche Konflikte produktiv werden oder ins Desaster führen, hat viel mit Kommunikation zu tun. In der Veranstaltung werden wir Beispiele für wichtige öffentliche Debatten analysieren und untersuchen, was sie über das Verhältnis von Architektur und Gesellschaft aussagen: vom Petersdom bis zu Stuttgart 21, vom Sydney Opera House bis zur „Neuen Altstadt“ in Frankfurt/Main. Das Seminar ist in Präsenz geplant und wird ergänzt durch einzelne Online-Termine.

Public Controversy in Architecture

The greater the importance of an architectural project, the more likely it will be passionately argued about. Whether such conflicts turn out to be productive or lead to disaster has a lot to do with communication. In this course we will analyze examples of such public debates and examine what they might tell us about the relationship between architecture and society: from St. Peter's in Rome to Stuttgart 21, from Sydney Opera House to Frankfurt’s "New Old Town". The seminar is planned in presence and is supplemented by individual online appointments.

Die Professur Architekturkommunikation organisiert in diesem Wintersemester die „Karlsruher Architekturvorträge“, die gemeinsame Vortragsreihe der Fakultät für Architektur. Unter dem Titel „All Tomorrow‘s Places“ werden mindestens sechs Positionen zu zukunftsfähigen architektonischen Strategien der Ortsbildung („Place-making“) vorgestellt. In dem begleitenden Seminar werden wir die Potenziale einer solchen Vortragsreihe für die Architekturkommunikation unter die Lupe nehmen. Die Teilnehmer*innen werden sich auf die einzelnen Vorträge vorbereiten, sie kritisch aufarbeiten, dokumentieren und argumentativ kommentieren. Im Ergebnis soll eine geistreiche, attraktive und gut lesbare Broschüre entstehen, welche die sechs Einzelpositionen so darstellt, dass sie den im Titel der Reihe formulierten Anspruch schlüssig fassbar machen.

All Tomorrow's Places

This winter semester, the Chair of Architectural Communication is organising the „Karlsruhe Architecture Lectures“, the joint lecture series of the Faculty of Architecture. Under the title „All Tomorrow‘s Places“, at least six positions on sustainable architectural strategies of place-making will be presented. In the accompanying seminar, we will examine the potential of such a lecture series for architectural communication. The participants will prepare for the individual lectures, critically process, document and comment them argumentatively. The result will be a witty, attractive and readable booklet that presents the six individual positions in such a way that they make the claim formulated in the title of the series coherent.

Im Rahmen der Teilnahme des Teams RoofKIT am Solar Decathlon Europe 2021/22 werden wir uns mit der Vermittlung von nachhaltiger Architektur in Form einer Ausstellung beschäftigen. Ziel dabei ist es, eine Konzeption für eine tatsächlich zu realisierende Ausstellung im Architekturschaufenster im Januar 2022 zu entwickeln, die das Projekt RoofKIT einer interessierten Öffentlichkeit präsentiert und dessen besondere Haltung im Kontext der Themenfelder Energiewende, Ressourcenknappheit und sozialer Verantwortung herausarbeiten und vermitteln kann.

Im ersten Teil des Seminars beschäftigen wir uns mit den Grundlagen der Ausstellungsgestaltung und der damit verbundenen spezifischen Kommunikation. Im zweiten Teil werden wir gemeinsam die Konzeption erarbeiten und das Ausstellungsdesign entwerfen. Der finale Teil ab Januar besteht dann in der Umsetzung und dem Aufbau (und späterem Abbau) der Ausstellung im Architekturschaufenster in Karlsruhe.

Das Seminar ist eine Kooperation zwischen den Professuren Nachhaltiges Bauen und Architekturkommunikation.

Communicating sustainability

As part of the RoofKIT team's participation in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2021/22, we will be working on communicating sustainable architecture in the form of an exhibition. The aim is to develop a concept for an exhibition that can actually be realised in the architecture showcase in January 2022, which presents the RoofKIT project to an interested public and can elaborate and convey its special attitude in the context of the topics of energy transition, scarcity of resources and social responsibility.

In the first part of the seminar, we will deal with the basics of exhibition design and the specific communication associated with it. In the second part, we will work together on the concept and design of the exhibition. The final part, starting in January, will consist of the implementation and construction (and later dismantling) of the exhibition in the Architekturschaufenster in Karlsruhe.

The seminar is a cooperation between the professorships of Sustainable Construction and Architectural Communication.
